Oz’mosis opened the show catching up with his enthusiastic guest, Salusa Basquin — a true trailblazer in the Haitian community. He wears so many hats, but mostly known for a very good teacher, coach, DJ, radio personality, humanitarian, and most importantly a great father. We welcomed him as the first guest on The Voice of Passion Podcast.
It was only a matter of time for the two to get on the mic. “You’re getting the real talk out of me”, said Salusa Basquin. The two have been friends for over 20 years and have been very present in each other’s life. Therefore, the conversation was natural and organic. The “Ice Breaker” kept them both laughing until Oz’mosis introduced the new episode. Thus, they decided to start with COVID-19, 2020 as a memorable year, and Virtual Education as well as Distant Learning.
Voice of Passion Podcast: COVID-19 Talk
Salusa Basquin shared his knowledge on COVID-19, explaining how people can catch it. He also talked about prevention measures one can take to avoid catching the disease. “What’s difficult about it, when people catch COVID-19, they don’t approach anyone about it”, Salusa stated. Oz’mosis joked about Haitians not catching COVID-19. Salusa quickly responded, “Nou pedi anpil moun”. In translation, “we have lost a lot of people. “We started treating COVID-19 as if it was AIDS”, Salusa referring to how a lot of people from the Haitian community used to keep it a secret after they tested HIV positive, which for the most part transformed into full-blown AIDS.
Salusa believes in one instance, COVID-19 is worse than AIDS because there are some basic things you can do to protect yourself. However, “COVID-19 is up in the air. It’s invisible. You don’t have to contact someone to catch it”, he added.
“When everything stops in America for a minute”, Oz’mosis shifted the conversation. Salusa suddenly questioned, “In America, you mean all over the world?” As no disaster comes without opportunities, Salusa reminded us that “whenever you see a disaster, set yourself up to start making profits”. The math teacher and the Voudou priest in Salusa started to come out more the deeper the conversation got.
The first episode also featured Haitian Rapper, Nicolas YM, who talked about how he got into the rap game as well as what he got coming.
